Barb and Con Sprenger
We're enjoying a road trip from Portugal through Spain and into Atlantic France for a few weeks.
Saturday, we positioned ourselves in the middle of the French Yellow Vest Protest march in Bordeaux witnessing at least 10,000 people and hundreds of police in what started as a peaceful demonstration against the countries economic policies, specifically their carbon tax. What resulted by the time they reached the City Hall turned into hooligans and totally disgruntled protesters burning things, throwing rocks (which appear to be from the cobblestone street), fire works and flares at the police. In turn, the police fired tear gas bombs, used their Bobby sticks, and unleashed a powerful water spray from the meters and meters of hose we watched them lay out earlier in the afternoon.
The French government has been understating the numbers of protesters in the news, but being here in the city we can see the crowds! We are experiencing the energy here in Bordeaux. It seems the country (and the world) is in transition.

Videos: The protest marching in front and behind me. The police in front of the Opera House waiting for the protesters and accidentally killing their riot van batteries. (Good thing there wasn't a riot along the route they had to race off to.)
